All her life Melanie Visser had one image of a true home. The stately Victorian house in the town she grew up next door to. The family who lived there represented family and stability to  a girl whose father wandered from place to place, always promising her and her mother a home. It never came.

When Melanie moves back she discovers that her dream home is for sale. The family who used to live there had moved on some time previous. The neglected house needs some loving care but the embittered owner, Adam Engler, wants nothing more than to be done with it.

To Adam the house represents everything bad in his life. The haunting memory of his wife’s untimely death lurk in every corner. He wants to move away and start over with his little girl. Selling it to Melanie seems the best solution.

But Melanie doesn’t know the true story behind the previous occupants of the house - that the happy family she thought lived there had broken up after a tragic accident almost took the life of one of the children. And then she finds out that Adam blames the distance the house was from town for his wife’s death.

He wants to leave, she wants to stay.

Can she teach him to overcome the pain of the past and turn his heart  Toward Home?
